Capstone：Britain and the European Union concluded a new round of future relations talks in London on the 9th. The British side said that although the two sides still have differences on important issues, they are still committed to reaching a UK EU free trade agreement.
British media quoted a spokesman for the prime minister's office as saying that the talks between the two sides were "useful" and that progress had been made in some areas, but there were still differences on some important issues. The two sides will continue negotiations in Brussels, Belgium, next week.
On July 7, British Prime Minister Johnson and European Council President Michelle Michelle spoke by telephone. The two sides acknowledged that they had major differences in fisheries, and instructed the chief negotiators to step up efforts to bridge the differences.
Johnson had previously said that October 15 was the deadline for the UK to reach a trade agreement with the EU, and if no agreement could be reached by then, "both sides should accept this fact and move on.". But the EU chief negotiator for brexit, Mr Barnier, suggested a more realistic deadline for reaching an agreement was the end of October.
Britain officially "left Europe" on January 31, and then entered an 11 month transitional period. If the UK and Europe fail to reach a trade agreement during the transitional period, trade between the two sides will return to the framework of the World Trade Organization (WTO) from 2021 and re implement border inspection and tariff, resulting in increased trade costs.
